Ontario County is located in west central New York, midway between Lake Ontario and the Pennsylvania State line, and between Rochester and Syracuse. The
New York State Thruway (I-90), Route 96 and
Routes 5 & 20 traverse the northern and central portions of the county, connecting the area with Syracuse to the East and Monroe County/Rochester to the West. Ontario County is uniquely positioned relative to I-90 with four interchanges across the northern tier of the county—at Victor, Canandaigua, Manchester and Geneva.
There are several major north-south highways in the county. Route 64 connects the northern and southern regions of the county to adjacent Monroe County and the Greater Rochester Metropolitan area. Newly expanded Route 332 connects the New York State Thruway to the center of the county. Route 14 connects Geneva and the eastern side of the county with the New York State Thruway. Scenic Route 21 runs from the northeast portion of the county to its southernmost communities.

Ontario County is also home to
Finger Lakes Railroad (FLRR), a short-line rail service, which provides freight and excursion services into six counties in the Finger Lakes and Central regions of New York State. FLRR offers routing via CSX, NS or CP. Other services include industrial development site search, transload opportunities and overall industry expertise.
