MASTER PLANS FOR ONTARIO COUNTY’S CANANDAIGUA LAKESHORE PARKS ARE COMPLETED

From the beginning of the planning process, the mission was to expand public access and inclusive recreational opportunities to Canandaigua Lake at Deep Run and Ontario Beach County Parks.

97% of the Lake’s 36 mile shoreline are in private ownership and only nine public park/recreation areas provide public access.  Making improvements that were appropriate for these small parks, both totaling only 1.5 acres, required balancing the capability of the site to accommodate more visitors with and adding new facilities or uses.

The recommendations and concept plans for Deep Run and Ontario Beach County Parks reflect the input received from a series of public meetings, an online survey, and the park planning advisory committee.  Consideration was also given future development of Town of Gorham  parkland across from Deep Run Park could provide complementary uses and support facilities such as parking.

SR 364 & CR 11 CORRIDOR ACTIVE TRANSPORTATION PLAN COMPLETED

Traffic, safety, pedestrian and bicycle access are important issues identified throughout the planning process. Since addressing these issues was beyond the scope of a park planning project Ontario County applied for and received a grant from the Genesee Transportation Council to prepare an Active Transportation Plan for the SR 364/CR11 corridor. The study will looks at ways to improve safe pedestrian and bicycle connections and along  the entire corridor from CR 1 to the Yates County Line.

PARK MASTER PLANS UNDERWAY

Ontario County is developing a master plan for Ontario Beach Park and Deep Run Park, two small parks on the eastern shore of Canandaigua Lake in the Town of Gorham. Public access to Canandaigua Lake is very limited.  97% of its 36 mile shoreline is in private ownership with only nine public parks/recreation areas including Ontario Beach Park and Deep Deep Run South swimming areaRun Park. Ontario Beach Park and Deep Run Park are the only public lake access points in the Town of Gorham, and the only lakefront parks in the Ontario County Park System. Both parks have sweeping views of Canandaigua Lake and the Bristol Hills, charge no fee, and are open late spring to early fall. The purpose of this master plan is to identify opportunities to increase park amenities and access to Canandaigua Lake while building on the existing aesthetic character and stunning lake views at these two parks. The Plan will incorporate a pragmatic and creative fusion of engineering, ecology and recreation planning to build cohesive, attractive and sustainable waterfront park designs for Ontario Beach Park and Deep Run Park.  Fore more information, check out the following .pdf: Planning for Deep Run & Ontario Beach County Parks

DRAFT LAKESHORE COUNTY PARKS CONCEPT PLANS AVAILABLE FOR REVIEW

Draft concept plans have been developed for both lakeshore parks.  For Ontario Beach County Park, proposed improvement ideas include canoe/kayak access, small fishing pier and overlook deck.  For Deep Run, ideas include a small picnic shelter, small pavilion with restrooms and lifeguard station and playground area.  An important part of the plan is to make the parks accessible to persons of all abilities.

Green infrastructure measures to minimize stormwater runoff into Canandaigua Lake are also included.  The plans are also emphasizing community connectivity and improving bicycle/pedestrian safety as well as linkages to future development of Town of Gorham park land on County Road 1.  By hovering your cursor over a thumbnail below, you will see a brief description of the map/graphic.
