A Healthy Food Drive Initiative in Ontario County
Ontario County Public Health is excited to pilot a new healthy food drive initiative called Nourish Your Neighbor (NYN). NYN is an educational food drive initiative that works with both the community and food pantries to increase the number of healthy foods available at the pantries. The goal is to provide education about healthy food options and encourage their donation to pantries. Ontario County Public Health is working locally with Eat Smart NY, Cornell Cooperative Extension, SNAP, SPCC WIC, Finger Lakes Community College, Boy Scouts of America and the United Way of Ontario County on this project. Eight local food pantries are also involved in the pilot.
The program started with outreach to food pantries and raising community awareness through advertising. Next steps are working with the Boy Scout’s Scouting for Food in the fall and United Way of Ontario County food drives in early 2019.
Keep an eye out for Nourish Your Neighbor advertisements coming soon this summer and fall. Remember to Nourish Your Neighbor by providing healthy options when you donate food to the community.
