Honeoye Lake Aeration Planning Project

Ontario County Planning Department and Honeoye Lake Watershed Task Force are partnering on an aeration system engineering and planning project for Honeoye Lake. The project is funded by the Environmental Protection Fund as administered by the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation (DEC). Additional funding support is provided by the Honeoye Lake Watershed Task Force and Ontario County Water Resources Council.

DEC recommends aeration as a priority strategy for reducing Honeoye Lake Harmful Algae Blooms (HABs), a perennial concern affecting water quality and recreational use of the lake.

Ontario County commissioned a consultant team led by Princeton-Hydro, LLC to design an appropriate aeration system customized to Honeoye Lake with a cost estimate, operating schedule and performance standards.

If the Honeoye Lake communities of Canadice and Richmond support the proposed side-stream supersaturation aeration system, the project partners will work with the Towns to complete the detailed project planning required for siting the pump house, environmental review and permitting, bid specifications, and grant funding application(s).
