Ontario County is home to an innovative private open-access fiber optic ring through Empire Access designed to provide affordable, high-speed service to all areas of the county, improving vital communications between government, healthcare and educational institutions, and assisting business clients. Service providers use the fiber ring to offer competitively priced voice and data services to businesses throughout the county.

Ontario County is located equidistant to two international airports, Rochester International (ROC) and Syracuse Hancock International (SYR). Additionally, Ontario County has its own general aviation airport. Ontario County is located in west central New York, midway between Lake Ontario and the Pennsylvania State line, and between Rochester and Syracuse. The New York State Thruway (I-90), Route 96 and Routes 5 & 20 traverse the northern and central portions of the county, connecting the area with Syracuse to the East and Monroe County/Rochester to the West. Ontario County is uniquely positioned relative to I-90 with four interchanges across the northern tier of the county—at Victor, Canandaigua, Manchester and Geneva.

There are several major north-south highways in the county. Route 64 connects the northern and southern regions of the county to adjacent Monroe County and the Greater Rochester Metropolitan area. Newly expanded Route 332 connects the New York State Thruway to the center of the county. Route 14 connects Geneva and the eastern side of the county with the New York State Thruway. Scenic Route 21 runs from the northeast portion of the county to its southernmost communities.

Ontario County is also home to Finger Lakes Railroad (FLRR), a short-line rail service, which provides freight and excursion services into six counties in the Finger Lakes and Central regions of New York State. Electric Service map - compressed.jpg RG&E and NYSEG are the primary service providers in Ontario County and offer a variety of economic development programs, including rate incentives and non-rate assistance. Rate assistance programs provide delivery rate discounts on qualifying loads. Non-rate assistance programs provide grants for electric infrastructure for qualifying capital improvements. Additionally, non-rate programs provide supplemental assistance to certain NYSERDA programs for energy efficiency improvements.

These assistance programs are intended to help attract new businesses to the service territory and support retention and expansion of existing businesses in the RG&E and NYSEG service territories. For details, visit

Located near the Great Lakes (the source of 84% of North America’s fresh surface water) and home to five of the Finger Lakes, the county enables easy water access for residents, businesses and visitors alike.
