Child Support Enforcement and Collection

During 2014, our collections continued to decrease as a result of the number of support orders that were modified in 2013 and 2014, resulting in reduced support orders. These reductions are a result of unemployment and downsizing of many businesses. Non-custodial parents are having a difficult time finding jobs commensurate with their previous earnings.
Our office collected $11,882,774.03 in 2014. Over 94% was distributed directly to the single parent families that we serve. The balance of $706,278.55 was retained by the county to help defray the costs of providing Temporary Assistance, Medicaid, and Foster Care services provided to the residents of Ontario County.

During 2014, we worked to increase the number of our cases that have a current child support order. We now have support orders on 93.59% of our cases. The federal requirement is 80%. Paternity has been established on 96.80% of our cases. The federal requirement is 90%. Medical support provisions are included on 74% of our orders.

We continue to partner with the County Attorney’s Office, the Ontario County Family Court, and the New York State Department of Taxation and Finance to establish, collect, and enforce our child support orders.

This office continues to be committed to help the single parent families of Ontario County to receive the financial and medical support to which they are entitled.
