Farmer’s Market Coupons Available
The Senior Farmers Market Nutrition Program provides an opportunity for low-income seniors to support local farmers’ and improve nutritional health by increasing their consumption of locally grown fresh fruits, vegetables and fresh cut herbs. Consuming fresh fruits and vegetables can increase the quality of your diet and decrease your risk of hypertension, diabetes, cancer and cardiovascular disease. Redeeming Senior Farmers Market coupons at participating markets and returning to purchase more products expands the consumption of local agricultural commodities and supports local farmers and economy.
The Ontario County Office for the Aging will be distributing Senior Farmers Market coupon booklets provided by the Senior Farmers Market Nutrition Program beginning Tuesday, July 07th. Each booklet contains five $4.00 coupons for a total value of $20.00. Coupons are valid through November 30th, 2016 at participating Farmers Markets.
Coupon booklets are available to each eligible senior on a first come, first serve basis while supplies last. Coupon books may be picked up by an eligible Power of Attorney, proof will be required. Eligible Ontario County seniors will be at least 60 years of age and affirm that they are low income based on one or more of the following criteria:
A gross monthly income at or below:
• One person household $1,832.00/month
• Two person household $2,470.00/month
• Three person household $3,108.00/month
OR
• Currently receiving or eligible to receive SSI, public assistance, or a Section 8 housing subsidy.
