1. How do I know if I will qualify for an assigned attorney?: Financial eligibility is determined on a case-by-case basis. The inability to afford legal representation is not synonymous with destitution or a total absence of means. You cannot have an attorney appointed to your case until the case is on the calendar and a first appearance has been made.

3. What is the Assigned Counsel Program?: The assigned counsel program is run through the Ontario County Conflict Defender’s Office. This office assigns attorneys to indigent individuals for Family Court matters and matters that are a conflict of interest for the Public Defender to handle.
